The Funicular Lines in Naples, stops, fares and practical advice

Map of the metro and funicular lines in Naples, Italy
Metro lines and funicular railways in Naples
There are four funicular railway lines in Naples, three of which provide access to the Vomero hill from the centre of Naples.

However, the funicular railway is not essential for reaching Vanvitelli station on the Vomero hill overlooking Naples.

The line number 1 metro line (yellow line) also provides access.

But if you are far from the stations on this line, it is convenient and also enjoyable to take the funicular to see things from above while being in the open air!

The funicular lines that provide access to the Vomero hill depart from the Montesanto station, very close to Piazza Dante, and from the Augusteo station, right next to the Galleria Umberto I and Via Toledo.

The line that departs from Montesanto, which bears the same name, has the advantage of arriving at Morghen station, which is located close to Castle Sant Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino.

We therefore recommend using this funicular line if you wish to visit either of these two places, which, it should be added, offer some of the most beautiful views of the bay and city of Naples, as well as Mount Vesuvius.

The Augusteo station line, called Centrale, arrives at Fuga station, near Vanvitelli Square.

The third funicular line departs from the Parco Margherita station near the Amadeo underground station on the line number 2 (blue) of the underground and arrives at the Cimarosa station, also near Vanvitelli Square.

Please note, however, that this last funicular line, called Chaia, has been closed for works since 2022 and there is no date yet set for its reopening.
