Le Musée de la Galerie d'Italie Zevallos : Caravage, Gemito et antiquités grecques à Naples

Martyrdom of Saint Ursula The Galleria d’Italia museum houses some true masterpieces; it is situated in the buildings of the Intesa San Paolo bank on Via Toledo.
There you can admire “The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula”: the last great painting by Caravaggio in which he depicted himself, barely a month before his death.
One room is dedicated to the works of the Neapolitan sculptor and painter Vincenzo Gemito: works that are deeply moving in their beauty and realism.
Artemisia Gentileschi’s beautiful painting, “Samson and Delilah” , is also on display at the Galleria d’Italia in Naples.
It depicts Samson, sleeping peacefully in Delilah’s lap, who has already cut a lock of his hair and placed it in the Philistine’s hand.
Four highly detailed views of Naples and Rome, painted over three centuries ago by Gaspar Adriaensz Van Wittel, known as Vanvitelli, are particularly interesting from a historical perspective.

Head of Aphrodite Finally, an entire floor of the Galleria d’Italia is devoted to Greek and Roman antiquity.
Here you can see a number of frescoes and sculptures on display thanks to the Galerie d’Italie’s partnership with the Archaeological Museum of Naples, and, above all, a superb collection of ancient Greek vases: Volute Krateres dating from the 4th century BC.
These vases, of exceptional artistic quality, feature red-figure paintings on a black background using the Athenian technique invented around 525 BC
