The theatre of the Court of the Royal Palace in Naples, Italy
Opened in 1768 to mark the wedding of Maria Caroline of Austria to Ferdinand IV, the court theatre has remained just as it was decorated at the time, with its white and gold stucco work.
Theatre of the court It was designed by Ferdinando Fuga, on the site of the palace’s ballroom.
The upper section features statues made of plaster and papier-mâché depicting the Muses, Mercury, Apollo and Minerva.
In 1789, Francesco Galante created the ceiling paintings.
In the centre is the « Wedding of Amphitrite and Poseidon », and on either side are allegories of « Peace 187;, « Strength » and « Abundance ».
