The Capodimonte Art Museum in Naples, Italy: Paintings and Sculptures

Luini, Madonna and Child The Capodimonte Museum in Naples is situated in the Royal Palace, built in 1738 on the Capodimonte hill to house the paintings from the Farnese collection.
Visitors come to this museum for its magnificent collections, mainly of paintings, but also of faience, furniture and a few sculptures.
And you can also admire the royal apartments, the reception rooms and the superb gardens covering more than 120 hectares that surround the palace.
Not to mention one of the most beautiful views of the city of Naples and its bay, Mount Vesuvius, the Sorrento Peninsula and the island of Capri, clearly visible from the palace’s viewpoint at the top of the hill.

The Flagellation of Christ The greatest names in painting are represented here.
From the most recent artists, such as Andy Warhol and his impressive depiction of the eruption of Vesuvius, to the oldest, such as Botticelli, Giovanni Bellini, Pieter Brueghel the Elder or Masaccio, to name just a few of the greatest masters on display here.
The great names of the Renaissance are also represented: Luca Giordano, Titian, Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernardino Luini, Artemisia Gentileschi, Bronzino, Parmigianino, Van Dyck and Lorenzo Lotto.
Finally, the absolute masterpiece of this museum is, in our opinion, Caravaggio’s “Flagellation of Christ” by Caravaggio, an extraordinary gift that this genius of painting left to the Neapolitans, which you too can admire in this superb royal museum.
