Fresco - Water-based pigments on coating (44 x 32 cm) DATE

The fresco depicts one of Zeus' many amorous adventures.

He had transformed himself into a swan in order to seduce Leda, who was the wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta.

The flowing dress completely reveals Leda's torso, who advances with a light step carrying a swan on her left arm, and covering her genitals with her right hand.

The swan flaps its wings and stretches its neck towards the beautiful face of Leda, with whom it is in love, before mating with her.

Leda gave birth to future celebrities of Greek mythology: Pollux and the beautiful Helen, children of Zeus; Castor and Clytemnestra, children of Tyndareus.

50–79 AD

Leda, wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta, allows herself to be seduced by Zeus, transformed into a swan, who clings to her side.

Leda then laid two eggs each containing a pair of twins: the girls, Helen and Clytemnestra, and the boys, Castor and Pollux.

Castor and Pollux, known as the Dioskouros, became famous for their exploits.

They were companions of Jason on the quest for the Golden Fleece.
