The Mythological Frescoes at the Archaeological Museum of Naples in Italy

The mythological frescoes on display at the Archaeological Museum of Naples were removed from houses in Pompeii, Herculaneum and the surrounding area.

The Three Graces
They are an exceptional testament to Roman pictorial art from two thousand years ago.

Most of these frescoes were commissioned by private individuals who intended them for the interior decoration of their homes.

All the refinement of Roman culture of the time is superbly showcased here.

Although these frescoes are meant to depict deities, one cannot help but think of the models who posed for them, with a sense of great closeness after so many centuries.

In many of them, the painters of the time demonstrated their talent through their ability to use chiaroscuro and create a perfect harmony of colours.
