A fresco depicting Pirithous, Eurytion and Hippodamia at the Archaeological Museum of Naples in Italy
Eurytion’s tribute to Pirithous

Eurytion and Pirithous Fresco – Water-based pigments on coating (106 × 93 cm) 45–79 AD
The Centaurs were invited to the wedding of the Lapith Pirithous and Hippodamia.
The fresco depicts their arrival at the palace, where Pirithous welcomes their leader Eurytion, who respectfully kisses his right hand after placing a basket of fruit at his feet as a gift.
The Centaurs remain outside; they are savages of brutal manners living in the forest-covered mountains, and they are bare-chested, whilst Pirithous and Hippodamia are elegantly dressed.

Eurytion and Pirithous The two intertwined sceptres above the simple fruit bowl, and the Doric column, highlight the peaceful union between the rustic nature of the Centaur and the civilised world of the bride and groom, whose hairstyles are particularly well-groomed.
Unfortunately, the savagery of the Centaurs will manifest itself during the wedding feast, where the overindulgence in wine will lead them to attempt to seize Hippodamia and the women of the Lapiths.
Thus the wedding feast ended in a fierce battle between the Lapiths and the Centaurs.
